What is XEOMIN®?
XEOMIN® contains botulinum toxin type A, the same protein found in BOTOX®
XEOMIN® is also sometimes referred to as incobotulinumtoxinA.
XEOMIN® is the newest alternative to BOTOX® cosmetic.
We offer Xeomin treatments for wrinkles in Dallas and Southlake offices.
Xeomin is a prescription medication used in cosmetic medical practice to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe expressive wrinkles such as frown lines, crow's feet and other wrinkles associated with facial expression in adults.
The difference between XEOMIN® and Botox is that Botox has a protein envelope, whereas Xeomin is naked. In the skin, all of the protein detaches from Botox within one to two minutes after of injection so there is no difference in onset of action. The only possible benefit is that the protein envelope in Botox may lead to formation of antibodies with repeated treatments, making one "resistant" to the anti-wrinkle effect of Botox. Because Xeomin does not have the protein envelope this is unlikely to occur with repeated treatment of Xeomin.Clinically the anti wrinkle effects are very similar to those of Botox
How Does it Work?
XEOMIN® works by relaxing the muscles of expression just below the skin, thereby causing the overlying skin to smooth out by preventing the muscles from contracting .
Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN® – is used in facial cosmetic treatments to treat dynamic lines like glabellar frown lines. It acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can temporarily reduce the frown lines on your forehead between your eyes.
