NEUROMODULATORS (BOTOX AND XEOMIN) FOR NECK WRINKLES IN DALLAS OR SOUTHLAKE OFFICES

Aging of skin shows on neck earlier than face due to thinner neck skin and less fat below the skin (subcutaneous fat). There are two types of neck wrinkles, horizontal neck wrinkles, the necklace lines and vertical neck ridges, the platysmal lines. Both types of wrinkles can be softened with use of BOTOX® , XEOMIN® in Dallas or Southlake office.  Photoaging, aging due to sun exposure and other environmental factors can lead to loss of collagen and elstin resulting in thinning of skin and reduction of the subcutaneous fat on the neck area forming horizontal neck line wrinkles (necklace lines). Laxity of platysmal muscles (neck band muscles) can further contribute to the aged appearance of vertical neck bands (playsmal lines).

NECKLACE LINES

The necklace lines are the horizontal neck wrinkles and can be reduced with injection of BOTOX® or XEOMIN® placed right above and below the lines, between one to three centimeters apart, along each line. It is essential not to administer too much BOTOX® or XEOMIN® at the time of your very first treatment to avoid excessive relaxation of the neck muscle which can interfere with the ability to swallow. At our Dallas and Southlake skincare offices, we like to see our patients for a follow up appointment, one to two weeks after the initial treatment for a touch up if needed. Generally, the necklace lines require more BOTOX® or XEOMIN® than most facial areas, and the results may last a little longer than those of the facial wrinkles with BOTOX® treatments due to less muscle movement on the neck. Over a period of time, with repeated, regular BOTOX® or XEOMIN® treatments these necklace lines get diminished or may even disappear altogether In addition to BOTOX® or XEOMIN® treatment, Dr. Malik may sometimes use a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, such as Juvederm®, Restylane® or Belotero® placed into the the deeper lines.

PLATYSMAL BANDS

The platysma muscle is a broad sheet of muscle which extends from the chest in the front, and shoulder muscles on the sides and extends obliquely over the collarbone to the jaw. The platysma neck muscle becomes lax or more pronounced with aging. This leads to formation of vertical neck wrinkles or bands which are more prominent with contraction of the neck muscle. The muscle draws the lower lip and corner of the mouth sideways and down, partially opening the mouth, as in an expression of surprise or fright. BOTOX® treatment or XEOMIN® treatment may be used to relax the platysma muscle and reduce the appearance of the bands. During treatment, Dr. Malik will ask you to contract the neck muscle while she administers BOTOX® or XEOMIN® along the raised platysmal ridges. She typically places BOTOX® or XEOMIN® one to three centimeters apart along each prominent neck band. Dr. Malik is cautious not to over treat this area and will see you for a follow up appointment one week after your initial BOTOX® treatment for a touch if needed. Cautious BOTOX® treatment is necessary to avoid interfering with your swallowing ability.
