FAQ IPL-RF Treatment in Southlake
Q & A FOR IPL-RF FOTOFACIAL
What is the IPL- RF FotoFacial ?
IPL- RF Fotofacial is one of the newest advancements in noninvasive cosmetic treatments; By combining two proven technologies (Intense Pulsed Light- IPL and Radio-frequency- RF) in one treatment, it offers a superb option for improvement in most signs of skin surface aging, without downtime and with little or no discomfort.
Is there a difference in different IPL-RF machines?
Yes. Not all IPL-RF systems are created equal. Our IPL-RF Fotofacial treatment in Southlake consists of the most advanced system which utilizes the ELOS (electro-optical synergy) technology- FDA- approved for facial rejuvenation.
Who is a Candidate For the IPL-RF FotoFacial?
IPL-RF Fotofacial is most suitable for two types of skin conditions:
Sun-damaged Skin:
Roscea
Sun Damage- Premature aging, Photoaging:
Anyone with sun damage of skin involving any exposed area, looking for a noninvasive treatment to improve surface skin aging without laser resurfacing or downtime may be a good candidate for the IPL-RF Fotofacial. IPL-RF treatment can noticeably improve signs of excessive sun damage on the skin surface; such as skin redness, dilated capillaries, fine lines/wrinkles, surface brown spots, leathery and coarse skin texture
Rosacea:
Rosace is a common skin condition which starts as episodes of facial redness and flushing and progressed to permanent skin redness, dilated and broken blood vessels, acne breakouts and in severe cases enlargement of nose due to permanently dilated blood vessels. Lifestyle and medications can minimize the progression of roseacea but IPL-RF can actually reduce the size of dilated blood vessels and enlarged nose tip if treated at an early onset.
ntibiotics reduce the associated acne breakouts, until IPL there was no effective treatment for the redness, flushing, and blushing. Now this common skin disorder is readily and effectively treated by FotoFacial/RF. Flushing, blushing, and redness can be reduced as much as 80% in many cases, and acne breakouts improved substantially as well.
Is There Anyone Who Is Not A Candidate For The IPL-RF FotoFacial?
YES- IPL-RF Fotofacial is not an appropriate treatment for the following groups of individuals:
People with auto immune disorders or with connective tissue disease.
We do not treat people if they are pregnant
We do not treat you if you have had recent sun exposure or have been in the tanning bed or if you are planning a sunny vacattion immediately following your IPL-RF treatment program.
Certain medications increase your sensitivity to light, such as certain antibiotics, anti-anxiety medications, sulfa drugs, if you are taking any of these medications, please let our staff know.
We do not perform IPL-RF Fotofacial if you are taking Accutane
What Does The Treatment With IPL-RF Fotofacial Involve?
FotoFacial/RF treatments are simple, convenient, and quick. After covering your eyes with protective glasses, we place a thin layer of cool gel over the treated area, press the IPL/RF device onto your skin and flash. The flashes are repeated until the entire area has been treated.
How Long Does Each Treatment Take?
Depending on the size of the area, a FotoFacial/RF treatment usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Any pain associated with the flashes is reduced to a bare minimum with a special device that cools your skin. After a treatment, you can put on makeup immediately and return to your regular activities.
Is IPL-Rf Treatment Painful?
For the vast majority of people, No; however individual pain tolerance varies and some individuals are more sensitive than others. We do not use topical numbing medication for the IPL-RF treatments. We use a cold gel and our IPL-RF system has a built in cooling tip which provides relief from the heat generated by this procedure
How Many Treatments Do I Need To See Results?
IPL-RF FotoFacial is a noninvasive skin treatment which gradually improves the superficial skin sun damage and rosacea over several weeks. Three to five treatments spaced three to four weeks are recommended for most individuals for best results. A combination treatment with the addition of microdermabrasion or micropeel is sometimes recommended to further enhance the results of IPL-RF treatment. .
What Results Should I Expect From the IPL-RF Fotofacial Treatment?
Our Southlake IPL-RF FotoFacial Treatment Programs are structured based on your skin needs.
We implement the IPL-RF treatments every three to four weeks apart and in between the IPL-RF treatment, we treat your skin with either a microdermabrasion or a Micropeel to maximize your results. These two types of treatments remove the surface layer of dead cells and debris from your skin to enhance the effect of the IPL-RF penetration into your skin. Furthermore, we we include NailaMD skincare products suitable for YOUR skin needs to maximize your results. In some cases, for darker skin type or for extensive and deep pigmentation we may prescribe a specialized compounded prescription skin medicated crème for several weeks before starting your IPL-RF FotoFacial. Program.
For individuals with rosacea, Dr. Malik may prescribe a topical rosacea medication alongside rosacea lifestyle and skincare for added improvement in your rosacea

Yes. Please let us know your history of frequent cold sores and Dr. Malik will prescribe you an antiviral medication for cold sore prophylaxis before your treatment.
How Long Do the Effects Of IPL-RF Fotofacial Last?
The IPL-RF fotofacial improves signs of aging and rosacea in the surface layers of your skin and these rejuvenating effects can last for several months. Unfortunately no treatment can stop further aging. The rate of skin aging in any individual depends on several factors; such as genetics, lifestyle, smoking, sun exposure, diet, exercise, stress level etc.
Will I Need Additional Treatments To Maintain the Results?
The maintenance treatment schedule will vary with individual needs, for most people one to two treatments every six to eight months are sufficient for maintenance of youthful skin
What Conditions Will This Treatment Not Help?
The IPL-RF Fotofacial Treatment Program is great for mild to modertae surface photomage but it is not the treatment for several other aging signs, such as :
Excessive loss of facial elasticity and sagging of skin; which is better addressed with microneedle fractional RF or surgical facelift in more advanced cases
IPL-RF Fotofacial does not treat the expressive lines such as frown lines, crow's feet which are better managed with neuromodulators such as Botox or Xeomin.
IPL-RF does not treat puffy eyes or bags under the eyes
Ipl-Rf Fotofacial is not a suitable treatment to remove sebaceous hyperplasias, a benign enlargement of oil glands in the skin.
IPL-RF does not treat raised skin tags, moles or actinic keratosis
IPL-RF Fotofacial will not treat precancerous or cancerous skin lesions which should be biopsied and surgically removed by a Dermatolgy surgeon prior to starting the IPL-RF Fotofacial treatment program
What Are The Possible Complications Of IPL-RF Treatment?
The most common side effects of IPL-RF Fotofacial are transient and mild. These are discomfort during the treatment. Mild skin redness of the treated area is common immediately after the treatment, this could last between one to three days but less than 24 hours in most people . Occasionally, mild skin burn with slight blistering of the treated area is possible but not very common in our practice. An increase in skin pigmentation following the IPL-RF treatment(Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation- PIHP) has been reported on occasion, especially in dark colored individuals. PIHP is rather less common in our practice and when occurs, it is treatable . Very rarely, some people may get a loss of pigmentation (hypopigmentation) of the skin after treatments, which is far less common with the newer AFT in Motion technology of the IPL systems.
